Bible Workbench meets from 12:00-1:00 PM on Sunday mornings in Fellowship Hall. The written materials are send out weekly to the First Church email.
The general structure of Bible Workbench is as follows:
- read the text,
- check basic reading comprehension (scene, character, plot),
- a little education about context and history,
- where are the themes in the scripture manifest in our world today, meaning the news,
- where do we see the themes manifest in our community, our church,
- where do we see the themes manifest in our own lives,
- where do we see the themes manifest in our spiritual lives.
But we never let the structure get in the way of a personal sharing. The guiding idea is to bring our lives to the text, and therefore illuminate it, not force the text into or onto our lives or thinking and therefore kill the magic.
